Welcome to the website of the St. John Paul II Vocational Missionary Union (UMV)
The UMV is a public association of the faithful, recognized by the Church, dedicated to promoting a culture of vocations. The UMV brings together missionaries from all states of life (priests, consecrated persons, married laypersons) for the mission of promoting vocations and fostering devotion to Christ the High Priest.

A Charism Based on Three Pillars

Priesthood

Devotion to Christ the High Priest is the mystical heart of the UMV. He is the Priest who prays for all vocations and brings them forth. Members of the UMV are invited to join in his prayer, his self-offering, and his work of bringing forth vocations for the whole Church.

The UMV contemplates “the Gospel of the Priesthood,” which is a school for fostering vocations, for educating the entire People of God in the priesthood, for the sanctification of future priests and priests, and for the sanctification of consecrated persons and the laity. It is also a school of support and consolation in the school of Christ, the merciful High Priest, to support all those who have been wounded by the priesthood. Finally, it is a school of fervor to embrace missionary and priestly boldness. To discern one’s vocation is to discern one’s offering (Rom 12:1–2).

Vocational Mission

“Go, therefore, to all nations and make disciples” (Mt 2:8). The UMV is a formative experience for all who wish to be missionaries of vocations, learning from the Master of vocations. The UMV proclaims “the Gospel of vocation.” UMV members are missionaries from all states of life and at every stage of life—from vocational awakening, vocational catechesis, vocational education, vocational discernment, and vocational formation to vocational mission—to form an apostolic vocational body.

Missionary Union

In response to the prayer of Christ the Priest, “May they be one” (Jn 17), the Missionary Vocational Union (UMV) brings together people from all walks of life in a common mission: the vocational mission.

The UMV seeks to foster love for the one Church —in its diocesan and universal dimensions, and in the complementarity of vocations.
